Minamata Convention: Initial Assessment in Turkey Inception Meeting was held in Point Hotel in Ankara, Turkey on 13th September, 2017.  The meeting began with opening speeches of Rodica Ivan–  UNIDO Project Manager, Süleyman Yılmaz-UNIDO Turkey Representative, Sebahattin Dökmeci– Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of Turkey Deputy General Manager. Following opening speeches, 3 technical presentations on Minamata Convention, Turkey’s situation, Mercury Management in the world are done by Rodica Ivan– UNIDO Project Manager, Bursev Dogan Artukoglu Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of Turkey Branch Manager and Rodrigo Romero-UNIDO International Consultant.  Project stakeholders from Ministries, private sector, universities and NGOs contributed to the inception meeting.

The overall objective of the project is to assist Turkey in completing pre-ratification activities under the Minamata Convention in order to enable policy and strategic decision-making and to prioritize areas for future interventions. The project is being planned to complete in 2 years’ time.
