TRAINING ON CONTAMINATED SITES MONITORING

The first training series for strengthening technical and institutional capacity regarding persistent organic pollutants and contaminated sites management were ended. Training on Contaminated Sites Monitoring, the fourth of the training series, was held online on 28-29-30 April 2021 with 126 people from central and Provincial Directorates of Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the related public institutions and organizations.

Mr. Gürsel Erul, Directorate General of Environmental Management, Head of Department of Water and Soil Management, gave the opening speech and noted that an important step was taken in strengthening capacity of the central and Provincial Directorates on the control of soil pollution and sites contaminated by point sources.

Following the opening speech, training was started with the presentation of Project’s Technical Consultant, Prof. Dr. İpek İmamoğlu on contaminated site remediation technologies, determination of clean-up targets and monitoring requirements. Then, International Technical Consultant, Prof. Dr. Ivan Holoubek gave information about the components of contaminated sites monitoring.

On the second day of the training, Project’s Technical Consultant, Prof. Dr. Elçin Kentel Erdoğan shared case studies about computer aided site-specific risk calculations pertaining to the Second Stage Assessment as per the Regulation on Control of Soil Pollution and Sites Contaminated by Point-Sources.

On the last day, Ivan Holoubek, International Technical Consultant presented case studies related to contaminated sites. With this presentation, detailed information was provided on the effectiveness, evaluation, and long-term monitoring studies.
Training on Contaminated Sites Monitoring ended with the evaluation of the training with online tools and receiving feedbacks from the participants.
