Training on Determination of the Cleaning Targets, the third of training series under Identification and Remediation of Contaminated Sites with Persistent Organic Pollutants Project, was held online on 8-9-10 March 2021 with the participation of approximately 169 people from central and Provincial Directorates of Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the related public institutions and organizations.

Mrs. Gülhan Saygılı, Head of Soil Pollution Control Unit from Water and Soil Management Department gave the opening speech of the training which is organized for strengthening technical and institutional capacity regarding the management of contaminated sites. On the first day of the training, Project’s Technical Consultants Prof. Dr. İpek İmamoğlu, Prof. Dr. Elçin Kentel Erdoğan and International Technical Consultant Prof. Dr. Ivan Holoubek gave information about the processes related to remediation of contaminated sites, conceptual site model, generic and site-specific risk assessment, and technologies for contaminated sites.

On the second day of the training, determination of risk-based site remediation targets and computer aided risk calculation methods under Regulation on Control of Soil Pollution and Sites Contaminated by Point-Sources were explained to the participants with case examples. On the last day of the training, international case examples from carious contaminated sites with persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals were presented.

Training on Determination of the Cleaning Targets ended with the feedbacks received from the participants.
