The 5871 Numbered Law of April 2nd 2009 on Ratification of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette of April 14th 2009, No: 27200.

The Stockholm Convention approved by this Law was formally introduced for enforcement following publication of the Cabinet Decree No: 2009/15272 in the Official Gazette of July 30th 2009, No: 27304.

The 3957 Numbered Law of December 28th 1993 on Ratification of the Basel Convention on the Control of Trans-boundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal was promulgated following its publication in the Official Gazette of December 30th 1993, No: 21804.

Relevance with the POPs management Article 2 of the law provides the definition hazardous waste. Article 13 of the law sets principles for the manufacturing, use, storage, transportation, import and export of hazardous chemicals and management of hazardous wastes by referring to the related regulations. Moreover, it is stated that Ministry of Economy can prohibit or restrict the import of certain chemicals, products and wastes by consulting the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The law appoints administrative fines for the case of violation of the provisions.
